By the time we crossed into Karnataka, the next state south our mission had changed to: simply covering as much ground as took tuk-ingly possible.  The route was pretty straight forward (or so we thought) considering that we would be on what appeared to be a coastal National Highway 17 for the remainder of the trip.  What we hadn't planned for was hills, hills, and more hills… knee deep potholes, busy traffic, and detours that had us averaging a 15MPH pace on this two lane road…  Uh Oh… It was now seriously in question...  It was such a relief to be back on the road again.  We had been corresponding with Robert of Children Walking Tall via email and finally the day had come where we could stop by to see the fruits of his labor.  We agreed to meet Robert in a church parking lot in Mapusa.  The drive was so different to what we had previously experienced.  The Portugese influence on Goa was undeniable.  There were many old churches and a very European feel to the houses, streets, and shops.  Children were dressed in Catholic shoal... Back on the road we were heading to the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh without any more friendly recommendations.  We had only one destination and plan in mind…  Direct to the train station mid-day to meet with the train manager to beg or bribe the chickshaw onto the train. All we can tell about Ahmdabad is that it is a dot twice the size of any city we have been to on the map and... Read more ...

By the time we reached Udaipur our journey was shaping up to be more about the cast of characters we were meeting along the way.  Our race strategy was simple…  Get a recommendation in our departing city for: • route, • distance we could cover, and • a place to stay in the next town.  This had been working since Agra, arriving into Udaipur was no exemption.  We had a contact number for Moonshi Baba of the Hanuman Ghat Hotel and he was standing by to meet us when we reached Udaipur to... By the way, if you go to the home page of the Rickshaw Run, two of the pics on their main screen are ones I took.http://rickshawrun.theadventurists.com/One is of our tuk-tuk in the fog, and the other one is of the beast getting loaded onto the craptacular ferry of doom. My partner in crime has been out sick all this week with some sort of dormant stomach bug. Not me, as I dosed myself there liberally with Haywards 5000, India's favorite "super extra strong" beer and, apparently, a kind of low-grade chemotherapy. There's not much... Read more ...
